One of the questions we get often is “What’s the weather like during a certain time of year?” Hopefully this guide will help.
In the mountains it’s always best to be prepared for a quick change in the weather. While it can be sunny and warm one minute, a change in weather patterns can bring upon rain and cooler temps the next.
Travelers should always be prepared for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions while visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. Temperatures in the mountains typically fluctuate as weather patterns change, especially at the higher elevations.
During the summer months daytime temperatures usually reach into the mid-80s in the lower elevations of the park, while the higher elevations experience much milder weather, with temperatures typically in the 60s. At any time throughout the year you should automatically expect temperatures to be at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler in the higher elevations.
Below is an easy to read chart that shows the high and low temperature average in Great Smoky Mountains National Park during each month of the year.
